Viale Vaticano, 00165 Roma RM, Vatican City
One of the world's largest art collections, founded by Pope Julius II in the early 16th century and now spanning 54 galleries across 7km of corridors. The collection includes the Raphael Rooms, Pinacoteca, Egyptian and Etruscan museums, and culminates in the Sistine Chapel. Plan at least 4 hours, more if you want to do it justice; the cafés inside are surprisingly good. The only Vatican-territory museum on this list.
