Rome's most historic gelateria in continuous operation, founded in 1900 from a dairy that supplied cream to the Italian royal family. Even the Obamas stopped here. Huge range of flavours (30+), classic Italian bar attached. The ordering process is notoriously chaotic (pay first, then fight your way to the gelato counter) — but the gelato quality justifies the effort. The pistachio + zabaione combination is the food writers' recommendation. Also serves pastries, coffee, and ice cream cakes.
