Antico Caffè Greco

09:00 - 21:00

Since 1760 — oldest café in Rome, 2nd oldest in Italy. Visited by Casanova, Keats, Shelley, Byron, Andersen, Goethe, Orson Welles. Premium prices; table service extra. Formal atmosphere.

Via dei Condotti, 86, 00187 Roma RM, Italy

Rome's oldest coffee bar, open since 1760 and a fixture of European literary and artistic history — Keats, Shelley, Byron, Casanova, Goethe, Wagner, Andersen, and Mark Twain all sat here. The interior is a living museum: red damask walls, vintage portraits, antique furniture, a succession of small salons. Prices are premium (especially table service) and the coffee is excellent though not exceptional compared to specialty shops. The historical experience is the reason to visit.
