The 'twin' of Santa Maria in Montesanto — design tricks make them look identical despite different plans.
Via del Corso, 528, 00186 Roma RM, Italy
The other half of the famous 'twin churches' at Piazza del Popolo (1662-79). Built on a wider plot, this one has a circular plan with a hemispherical dome, while its sister has an oval plan and oval dome — but the two domes were carefully designed to look identical when seen from across the piazza. A clever exercise in perceptual symmetry. Less interesting inside than Santa Maria in Montesanto opposite.
