Piazza di San Marcello, 5, 00187 Roma RM, Italy
On Via del Corso, with one of Rome's most beautiful Baroque facades — Carlo Fontana's concave 1683 design. Holds the venerated Crocifisso di San Marcello, a 14th-century wooden crucifix that famously survived a 1519 fire that destroyed the rest of the church (only the crucifix was found in the rubble, untouched), and was carried through Rome during the 1522 plague — credited with ending it. Pope Francis prayed before this crucifix during the COVID-19 lockdown of 2020.
