Carlo Maderno's Baroque facade (1603) is considered the prototype of the Roman Baroque church facade — direct ancestor of his later facade for St. Peter's. The American Catholic community in Rome has worshipped here since 1922; Sunday morning English-language Mass at 10:30 is the only regular public access. Limited hours but the facade alone justifies a walk-by.
