The historic German national church in Rome (built 1500-1542). Holds the tomb of Pope Adrian VI (Hadrian VI, died 1523) — the last non-Italian pope until John Paul II in 1978, and a deeply unloved Dutch reformer whom Romans considered a barbarian. The interior holds a Sebastiano del Piombo altarpiece, a Cosmatesque floor, and the tombs of many German cardinals and ambassadors over four centuries. Just behind Piazza Navona.
