Pair with Ponte Fabricio for a complete crossing of Tiber Island.
Ponte Cestio, 00186 Roma RM, Italy
Originally built around 46 BC by Lucius Cestius — a magistrate left by Caesar to govern Rome during the Spanish War — connecting Tiber Island to Trastevere on the western bank. Reconstructed in 1888–92 to widen it for modern traffic, but the rebuild preserved two original Roman arches and reused much of the ancient stonework. It's a pleasant pedestrian crossing, often with street musicians playing in the evenings, and gives lovely views down the Tiber toward Ponte Fabricio.
