Look up at Palazzo Farnese — the French Embassy, Michelangelo helped design it.
Piazza Farnese, 00186 Roma RM, Italy
A dignified counterpart to neighbouring Campo de' Fiori, dominated by Palazzo Farnese — one of the finest High Renaissance palaces in Rome, designed by Antonio da Sangallo and completed by Michelangelo. It now houses the French Embassy, so visits inside are by appointment only. The two large granite basin fountains in the square were repurposed from the ancient Baths of Caracalla — practical recycling on an imperial scale.
