Dramatically lit at night.
Piazza San Bernardo, 00187 Roma RM, Italy
A monumental 1587 fountain commissioned by Pope Sixtus V as the terminus of the Acqua Felice aqueduct, which finally brought running water back to the higher districts of Rome. The central statue of Moses by Prospero Antichi was so widely mocked at its unveiling — for its squat proportions and stiff pose — that, according to legend, the sculptor died of shame shortly afterward. The flanking reliefs are far better, and the whole monument is dramatically lit at night.
