Beneath the Capuchin church on Via Veneto, six small chapels are decorated entirely with the bones of around 3,700 Capuchin friars — femurs as wall mouldings, vertebrae as chandelier links, skulls as altar facings. A plaque reads 'What you are now we used to be; what we are now you will be.' Disquieting, beautiful, and a serious meditation on mortality.
