Via Nazionale, 16/A, 00184 Roma RM, Italy

Built between 1873 and 1876, this was the first non-Catholic church constructed within the Aurelian Walls after Italian unification opened Rome to other faiths. Designed by George Edmund Street (architect of All Saints' Anglican) in a Victorian Gothic style, it is famous for its extraordinary apse mosaic by the English Pre-Raphaelite Edward Burne-Jones — depicting the Tree of Life with Christ at the centre, surrounded by angels and figures including Abraham Lincoln, General Grant, and Garibaldi as personifications of righteous warriors. The American Episcopal community in Rome's main church; today widely used as a venue for opera and classical music performances thanks to its excellent acoustics and central location on Via Nazionale.
