The Cerasi Chapel holds two Caravaggios. The Chigi Chapel was designed by Raphael.
Piazza del Popolo, 12, 00187 Roma RM, Italy
Built on a site reputed to be haunted by the ghost of Nero (whose ashes were said to be scattered nearby) — Pope Sixtus IV rebuilt the church in 1472 to definitively exorcise the area. Holds two Caravaggio masterpieces in the Cerasi Chapel: The Conversion of Saint Paul and The Crucifixion of Saint Peter. The Chigi Chapel was designed by Raphael for the banker Agostino Chigi (Bernini later added two of the four sculpted prophets). Pinturicchio frescoes adorn the apse. Lucrezia Borgia's mother Vannozza dei Cattanei is buried here, in a remarkable historical aside.
