Rome's smallest Egyptian obelisk perched on the back of a charming marble elephant designed by Bernini — one of the city's most loved monuments. Bernini's inscription: a strong mind is needed to support the weight of wisdom (the elephant = strength, the obelisk = Egyptian wisdom). The base reliefs were designed by Athanasius Kircher. Steps from the Pantheon.
