Beside the Temple of Hercules Victor — see both in one stop.
Piazza della Bocca della Verità, 00186 Roma RM, Italy
A remarkably well-preserved rectangular Republican-era temple (around 100 BC) dedicated to Portunus, the Roman god of harbours and rivers — appropriate, since it stood beside the ancient river port. The temple survives almost completely intact because it was converted into the church of Santa Maria Egiziaca in the 9th century, which protected its structure for over a thousand years. Free to view from the street, immediately beside the Temple of Hercules Victor.
