Café prices on the square are inflated — eat one block off. Christmas market in December.
Piazza Navona, 00186 Roma RM, Italy
Built directly on the footprint of Domitian's stadium (86 AD) — which is why the piazza has its distinctive elongated oval shape, preserving the ancient racetrack beneath your feet. The square is a stage for two of the Baroque's greatest rivals: Bernini's Fountain of the Four Rivers, where four river gods represent the known continents, and Borromini's Sant'Agnese in Agone facing it. Café prices on the square are heavily inflated, so eat one block off in Via dei Coronari instead.
