First of the Imperial Fora. Statue of Caesar is a 1933 bronze copy.
Via dei Fori Imperiali, 00186 Roma RM, Italy
The first of the Imperial Fora, dedicated by Julius Caesar in 46 BC to relieve overcrowding at the original Roman Forum. Centred on the Temple of Venus Genetrix, mother of Aeneas and the divine ancestress Caesar claimed for his Julian line — a piece of political mythmaking carved in marble. The bronze equestrian statue of Caesar that now stands in the forum is a 1933 copy installed by Mussolini, who deliberately echoed imperial Rome in his fascist architecture.
