The rooftop of the castle, marked by Verschaffelt's bronze archangel statue placed there in 1753 to commemorate the supposed appearance of Archangel Michael that ended the plague of 590 AD. The terrace gives a direct sightline along Via della Conciliazione to St. Peter's dome — one of the most photographed views in Rome. There's a café up here with overpriced drinks, but the view earns the markup. Closed Mondays.
