Capitoline Hill, 00186 Roma RM, Italy
The smallest and most sacred of Rome's seven hills, and the spiritual centre of the ancient city — the location of the Temple of Jupiter Optimus Maximus, where every Roman triumph ended. The hill housed the city's official archive (Tabularium) and the mint that gave the world the word 'money' (from the nearby Temple of Juno Moneta). Today it's crowned by Michelangelo's Piazza del Campidoglio and the Capitoline Museums — the world's first public museum, founded in 1471.
