Stadio dei Marmi (Pietro Mennea) — Foro Italico

Athletics

Primarily open for visits as an architectural landmark. Major athletics meets use the Stadio Olimpico. The Golden Gala Pietro Mennea (IAAF Diamond League) is held in Rome annually — check athleticsrome.it for dates. The Stadio dei Marmi (Stadium of the Marbles) is one of Rome's most visually extraordinary sports venues. Named after sprinter Pietro Mennea since 2013. Surrounded by 60 imposing white marble statues of athletes donated by Italian cities, inspired by Hellenic stadium design. Part of the original Foro Italico complex designed by Enrico Del Debbio in the 1930s. An extraordinary piece of fascist-era sports architecture.
