Via Merulana, 121, 00185 Roma RM, Italy
Rome's newest important art museum — opened in 2019 in a beautifully restored 1920s palazzo on Via Merulana, between the Colosseum and Santa Maria Maggiore. Houses the Elena and Claudio Cerasi Collection: around 100 works of Italian art from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, including paintings by Giacomo Balla, Giorgio de Chirico, Felice Casorati, Antonietta Raphael, and Scipione — the major figures of the Roman School and Italian avant-garde. The building has been strikingly restored, with original 1920s architectural details preserved alongside contemporary museum design. Regularly hosts strong temporary exhibitions. Recommended in romeing.it's complete guide to Rome museums as a significant recent addition. Often completely uncrowded despite its exceptional collection and central location.
