Inside Villa Borghese — easy to combine with the park, Galleria Borghese, or a picnic.
Viale del Giardino Zoologico, 1, 00197 Roma RM, Italy
Rome's zoological garden, opened in 1911 and modernised into a conservation-focused bioparco in 1998. Around 1,000 animals from 200 species, with a strong focus on biodiversity, education, and species at risk of extinction. Highlights include the elephant enclosure, big cats, primates, the new lemur island, and the reptilarium. The setting inside Villa Borghese makes it easy to combine with a park visit; a small train circles the zoo for tired feet.
