Via Marianna Dionigi, 59, 00193 Roma RM, Italy
The principal church of the Waldensian community in Rome — Italy's indigenous Protestant tradition, founded in the 12th century by Peter Waldo of Lyon, four centuries before the Reformation. The Waldensians survived centuries of persecution by hiding in remote Alpine valleys in Piedmont and were granted civil rights only in 1848. This 1914 neo-Romanesque church on Piazza Cavour was designed by Emanuele Rutelli and Paolo Bonci, and is admired for its striking stained glass windows and pipe organ — used for regular classical music concerts. Outside Sunday services, opening hours are limited.
