International shrine of Divine Mercy, home of the Sister Faustina cult, just 5 minutes from St. Peter's.
Borgo Santo Spirito, 12, 00193 Roma RM, Italy
Founded by King Ine of Wessex in 727 AD as the church for the Saxon community in Rome (hence 'in Sassia'). Rebuilt by Sangallo the Younger in 1539. Designated by Pope John Paul II as the international shrine of the Divine Mercy devotion, centred on the apparitions of Sister Faustina Kowalska (canonised 2000). The image of the Merciful Jesus venerated here draws Polish and other Eastern European pilgrims by the bus-load. Five minutes' walk from St. Peter's.
