Don't miss the underground crypt — accessed from the rear.
Piazza dei Santi Apostoli, 51, 00187 Roma RM, Italy
A 6th-century church rebuilt in the 18th century, near Piazza Venezia. Holds what tradition identifies as the relics of two of the original Twelve Apostles, Saints Philip and James the Less, beneath the high altar. The tomb of Pope Clement XIV, sculpted by Antonio Canova in 1789, is one of the artist's masterpieces and a transitional work between Baroque and Neoclassicism. The underground crypt and excavations reveal earlier medieval and early-Christian remains and are open to visitors via a small entrance.
