Piazza di Santa Francesca Romana, 4, 00186 Roma RM, Italy
Built into the ruins of the Temple of Venus and Roma in the Roman Forum. Saint Francesca Romana (1384-1440) is the patron saint of motorists — the church holds her tomb, and on her feast day (March 9) thousands of cars line up around the Colosseum to be blessed. Inside, the Madonna Glycophilousa is a 5th-century Byzantine icon brought to Rome from the East. Two stones embedded in the right-hand wall reportedly bear the knee imprints of Saint Peter, who knelt here praying that Simon Magus would fall from his magic flight.
