Sistine Chapel

The most famous artwork ever made — 520 sq metres painted virtually alone over four years. Nine Genesis scenes: Creation of Light, Creation of Adam (most reproduced image in Western art), the Fall, the Flood. Michelangelo had almost no fresco experience — he was primarily a sculptor. The result transformed European painting for 400 years. Raphael repainted parts of his own Vatican rooms after seeing it mid-completion.
