Michelangelo's most powerful free-standing sculpture — a 2.35-metre Moses who has just glimpsed the Israelites worshipping the Golden Calf, on the verge of rising in fury. Freud wrote an entire essay about this statue. Michelangelo reportedly struck the finished knee with a hammer and commanded it to speak. Free — in a church a short walk from the Colosseum.
