A solemn black-cloaked statue marking the exact spot where Giordano Bruno was burned alive by the Inquisition on 17 February 1600 — for proposing the universe was infinite and the sun was a star. Pope Leo XIII threatened to leave Rome if it was erected. Bruno stands hooded and defiant, gazing toward the Vatican. Every year on the anniversary of his execution, supporters gather here. A powerful monument to free thought.
